mCube is a music management software.
mCube Music Manager is a software designed to provide users with a digital music manager. The goal of this project is to enable music lovers to manage and choose music with the same level of comfort and feeling provided by browsing physical compact discs, while also taking advantage of sophisticated computer-aided search, sort and categorization functionalities.
The software offers multiple key features, including folder synchronization, which allows users to add a folder to the mCube Library and never worry about it again. The tagging system lets users build a categorization that evolves with their library and their needs, while the tag cosmos allows for easy navigation through tags. Additionally, there are multiple views available for displaying artists, albums, tracks or compilations, and users can customize their own page with the views they prefer, in the way that suits them best.
Other features include a quick search box to filter through the library, album information editing with automatic file tag updates, easy filters for various album types, and support for multiple CDs albums. Users can also export selected songs or albums to an external folder, eliminating the need for file managers, and play songs or albums with the default system player. Best of all, mCube is an open source software and completely free.
The only requirement for using mCube is Java 1.4.2 or later. The latest release includes several major improvements, such as better song data retrieval from file names, a toolbar for filtering types of albums, and improved support for external players. There is also a new Info View with additional album information, Winamp control support, and a random album chooser button.
Minor improvements include being able to add a folder that is already under mCube's control without modifying dates, new customizable views in the album view, improved sort options, keyboard navigation, and automatic periodic saving of the library only if it has been modified. "Clean missing files" command now also deletes empty folders, and Libraries management GUI has seen some improvements.
Under the hood, mCube has made the switch to trionus/JavaLayer/MP3SPI to read MP3 tags, and the Glazed Lists API used to manage dynamic lists is now much faster.
