SconeServer is a network server framework for UNIX-like platforms that is modular, object-oriented and extremely versatile. The main goal of the SconeServer project is to provide a framework that enables developers to construct any kind of network server by deploying and developing reusable modules. SconeServer comes with a general set of modules that can be updated, removed or added if required. These modules are implemented as Dynamic Shared Objects, which enable them to be added or removed from the server without the need to recompile. The SconeServer framework makes it easy for third parties to develop new modules to extend the capabilities of the system.

To install SconeServer, simply untar it to a temporary directory and run the configure script to auto-detect your system settings and generate the Makefiles. You can then build everything using the make command and run the tests by running make check. Finally, to install SconeServer, use the make install command, and ensure that the directory "/lib" is listed in "/etc/ld.so.conf." By configuring SconeServer using the object-oriented language called SconeScript, you can easily configure each module without any difficulty.

SconeScript commands can either be read from a file or run interactively from a configuration console. This language uses a syntax that is similar to JavaScript, and each command always executes within the context of an object. SconeScript can have any number of properties, methods, and sub-objects that should be described in the module documentation.

During startup, the root module sconeserver reads its configuration from the file "prefix/etc/sconeserver.conf," unless an alternative path has been specified on the command line. Each loaded module will most likely have its own configuration options that can be entered in the main configuration file. However, it is more common for modules to have their own configuration files that are read automatically when the module is loaded. By default, these configuration files are located at "prefix/etc/module-name.conf".
