A macOS screensaver that showcases album cover art and track details for the current music player in use. Automatically detects the player and updates accordingly.
This is a review of the Album Cover Artwork Screensaver for MacOS. The software has the ability to detect which music player is currently being used and displays the cover art and details for the currently playing track. It supports a variety of music players including iTunes, Spotify, Snowtape, Ecoute, Rdio, Radium, Swinsian, and now Hermes (Pandora client).
With the Album Cover Artwork Screensaver, users have the option of choosing from several different themes including Classic, Text-only, Mosaic, and Full-Screen with Ken Burns effect. The newest addition is the 'Lyrics Mosaic' theme. In addition, the software can fetch album artwork from the web if needed.
A great feature of this software is that it supports the Apple remote for skip back/forward, volume up/down, and play/pause. Whether you're using Spotify or iTunes, the remote controls whichever player is currently being used. This means you can control the track and volume without leaving the screensaver.
The Album Cover Artwork Screensaver can also display the rating/popularity of a track and allows for the rating to be changed. It also has an adjustable 3D effect and progress bar.
As a screensaver, the software just kicks in if you leave your computer, or if you mouse to your hot corner. If you prefer, you can also choose to display a clock. The screensaver is easy on the eyes, displaying just the cover for the currently playing track with a few details and very soft fading actions.
