Speak Cal is a calendar software which speaks events out loud for the user.
One of the key features of Speak Cal is its audio-only function that allows users to listen to the month, year, and day information as well as any other text data they have entered for the specific day. The software also stores and recalls any text data that the user enters, associating it with the respective day of the calendar.
To navigate the virtual calendar, users can use the arrow keys to move the cursor around. The right arrow key moves to the next day, while the left arrow key moves to the previous day. The down arrow key moves to the next week, and the up arrow key moves to the previous week. The ">" and "<" keys move to the next and previous month, respectively.
Moreover, moving from one day to another triggers automatic storage of any text entered, associating it with the relevant day on the calendar. Speak Cal also comes with alt-key sequences for different commands, such as speaking the month and year (Alt-m) or requesting help (Alt-h or Alt-?).
Speak Cal requires Perl and PerlSpeak.pm, a Perl module for text to speech. Additionally, users should have a text to speech system like festival or cepstral.
In this new software release, Speak Cal has fixed a problem saving text on some systems. It has also expanded its features, including the ability to speak out the version of Speak Cal (Alt-v or Alt-a) and speaking help text (Alt-h or Alt-?).
