The Firefox add-on enables swift navigation across the Italian community.
Once the software is installed, it inserts three identical menus with sets of links arranged by support channels. The menus can be found in the menu bar, the Tools menu, and the right-click context menu. Users can enable or disable any of these three menus from the extension Preferences, which also allows them to choose which sub-menus and specific groups of links should be shown.
If users set their personal page name in the Italian Ubuntu Wiki and/or the international Ubuntu Wiki in the extension Preferences, the software will automatically show the direct links to their personal pages. However, the IRC channel links require an external IRC client that is associated with the IRC format links (of the form "irc://irc.server.net:port/channel?key") in order to run it and automatically join the selected channel.
For Ubuntu users, they only need to install the "xchat" and "xchat-remote" packages if they are not already installed. But, for this version, it is unnecessary to check this out. As for MacOS X and Windows users, they simply need an IRC client that handles the IRC protocol (such as Colloquy for MacOS X and XChat2 [silverex build, maybe starting from the next build] for Windows, among those freeware).
However, the menus in the menu bar and in the Tools menu may not show link icons for MacOS X users. But, the icons will be shown correctly in the right-click context menu. Overall, this software provides users with a convenient and customizable way to navigate through the Italian Ubuntu community and beyond.
