wxSand, a Falling Sand Game, is a particle toy that allows you to interact with different elements and explore their behavior. Through its reimplementations, you can now even create your elements. The game is highly entertaining as you can build interactive structures, ecosystems, and toys. It's an excellent idea, and all credits go out to the original creator. However, it's unfortunate that the game is in Japanese. Here's a link to the closest version to the original that I could find, given my lack of knowledge about the language.

As a result of spending hours playing the Java version of the game, I began to think of ways to improve it. With no source code for the original game and being unfamiliar with Java's programming language, I decided to start over with C/C++ and the cross-platform wxWidgets. This way, other Java fans could create their own improved versions of the Falling Sand Game.

I believe that the Falling Sand Game should be a Zen experience and as cyclic as possible, enabling environments to evolve for long periods of time. Moreover, I realized the close association between The Sand Game and the game of Life. With a few basic rules and starting elements, the outcome is always unexpected.

I have created different versions of the game, including one with my own rules, one with the original rules, and one with the original rules plus some exciting extra items. I have also included more interactions and elements than the original game, allowing you to discover them as you play.

In version 2, there is no fire (Versions 3 & 4 do, though) to maintain the game's tranquility. Moreover, I feel that including free-moving characters detracts attention from the evolution of the field. Initially, I didn't want to make this Open Source because I felt it would take away the mysticism of the game. However, I believe that those of you inclined should still see the simple algorithm and note the connection with the game of Life. Also, impossible situations like unequalized water levels should be viewed as interesting artifacts of the game's rules.

The latest release includes new features like the option to download physics from the wiki and purple 100 explosions. Many updates have also been made, mainly explosions. Overall, wxSand is a fun game that allows you to experiment with different interactions and elements while creating your own interactive structures, ecosystems, and toys.
