AsmView is a viewer software for text files.
AsmView is a software that everyone needs to have as it is a powerful text file viewer. The usage is as easy as it can be, users just need to type the command "asmview file" and it will load the file into the viewer. Alternatively, users can also use this software by typing "asmview < file" or "cat file | asmview".
If no file name is provided or an incorrect filename is used, the program does not show an error message but instead displays a file selection window. The best part about this software is that it reads a file and converts all non-text data to "." (period) characters. This feature makes the data more understandable, and the user can easily scroll in any direction.
Long lines will extend beyond the right edge of the screen and can be viewed with the right-arrow key. AsmView offers a variety of keyboard actions for exciting usage. With the up and down keys, you can scroll up and down, whereas the pgup key lets you move one page up and the pgdn key lets you scroll down one page. With the right and the left direction key, users can scroll in either direction, and the esc button can be used to exit the program.
The f10 and f3 keys also have the same function, which is to exit the program. The enter key can be used to begin or repeat search while the f1 key displays the help menu. The home key takes the user to the top of the file, and the end key takes users to the end of the file.
Finding something in a large file has never been as comfortable as with AsmView software. Users can enter any search string by typing a normal text character. The search string will appear on the status line (bottom of the display). The search string keys include text key, rubout, and enter keys. While searching, all matches are positioned on the top line of the display.
To continue searching, the user can just keep pressing. To start a search from the top of the file, users need to type and then press either or a new search string followed by . All non-control keys are assumed to be part of a search string and will be shown at the bottom of the screen.
