Authentic is an identity provider software that is Liberty-enabled, offering a comprehensive solution for various types of setups, ranging from simple to complex.
The Authentic project is an identity provider that uses Liberty-enabling technology to address a variety of needs, ranging from simple to complex setups. It relies on the Lasso implementation of Liberty Alliance specifications to achieve Liberty compliance. Authentic is a Quixote application and is commonly used within the Apache Web server.
One of the key features of Authentic is its Liberty conformance. Although it is not certified itself, it implements the Liberty protocols through the use of Lasso, which was certified as conformant to Liberty specifications in May 2005. Authentic implements every feature required by the Identity Provider Conformance Matrix, as well as several extra features. For example, it can act as a proxy identity provider, redirecting requests from service providers to other identity providers, or sharing identity attributes through ID-WSF Personal Profile with an appropriate version of Lasso.
In terms of performance, the underlying components are quite fast, and Authentic doesn't slow things down. Although there are no hard measures yet, a quick benchmark using ab (from Apache) yielded more than 200 requests per second on a development laptop with a Centrino 1.5GHz, 1GB RAM.
Authentic is also easy to administer thanks to its convenient web administrative interface, which provides identity management and log analysis. It has a range of parameters that can be adjusted to suit different needs without requiring any code change.
In the latest release, minor but annoying issues with version 0.7.0 – such as error display and translations – have been fixed, making Authentic an even more reliable and efficient software solution for Liberty-enabled identity provision.
