Autoplay Videos is a script for Amarok that initiates a video player automatically as soon as a video file is opened.
I recently came across a very useful Amarok script called Autoplay Videos. This script automatically launches a video player when a video file is played in Amarok. The script has a clever feature which detects videos based on their file extension. This means that once you play a video, the script will automatically detect it and pause Amarok to avoid double bandwidth use.
The script also takes care of local videos. Similar to streamed videos, Amarok is paused, but playback is restarted after 5 seconds with volume set to zero. This allows for scores and scrobbling to be added for taggable video formats such as asf, mkv or mp4. Yes, you can even add music videos to your collection!
Although it's not possible to control the video from Amarok, it's worth noting that Amarok isn't designed to be a video player. When another file is played, the external player will be killed and the volume restored. By default, the script uses mplayer, but if you want to choose another player you will need to edit the script.
If you want to achieve the impression that the video is played in the context browser, you can use kwin's special window settings. This involves enabling "No Border" and "Keep Above". The "Remember position" function doesn't seem to work, but you can enter a line like "geometry=WxH+x+y" in ~/.mplayer/config.
