I recently had the opportunity to use the BigSpeed Peer-to-Peer SDK, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations. The SDK comprises of two COM components, namely Agent and Hub, which facilitate the setup of a virtual private peer-to-peer network. This network greatly enhances the security of file sharing and messaging, an integral part of any modern business.
The data transferred are scrambled on-the-fly using 128-bit AES encryption, ensuring that SSL certificates are not needed. Furthermore, NAT traversal is implemented using TCP hole-punching technology, providing an additional layer of security. Additionally, the SDK offers two different modes of security; symmetric encryption with shared secret key, and asymmetric encryption with 1024-bit public/private keys.
The Hub is responsible for keeping information on online peers and authenticating them. All the peers connected to a particular hub build a single private community. Besides standard FTP operations, such as upload, download, rename, and delete, the SDK offers several advanced features. The broken file transfers are resumed automatically (if enabled) with MD5 integrity checking. Moreover, the Agent can run search operations on peers, and the Server Module can compress or decompress files upon request from the remote client module.
The SDK even has the option to compress outgoing data on-the-fly before encrypting it, significantly reducing transfer time for large files.
