The Excel CAPE-OPEN Unit Operation is a software that enables calculation input in Microsoft Excel. Users can create unit operations with this program and define it in a CAPE-OPEN compliant simulator using an Excel workbook.

The workbook contains multiple worksheets with specific functionality such as the feeds page, which lets you add feeds by simply entering the names of feeds to a table. During the calculation, the feeds page will show pressure, temperature, enthalpy, composition, and flow for each feed. You can use these values in your calculations as they are simply numbers.
There's also a products sheet where you can add product streams by adding rows to a table. This sheet contains cells for pressure, temperature, enthalpy, composition, and flow as well. However, two or three values (pressure, temperature, and enthalpy) need to be specified by Excel formulas. In addition to these sheets, there are in and output parameter sheets.
The control sheet allows you to investigate all physical and thermodynamic properties supported by the simulation environment, which includes compounds constants, pressure- and temperature-dependent properties, single- and two-phase properties, and equilibrium calculations. You can use all these types of calculations in your unit operation model. The control sheet also lets you define reports, simply by identifying named regions in your workbook, and define whether and how to use the Excel solver for your model.
Multiple solver models can be specified that will be solved sequentially during the calculation. With its simple principle and user-friendly interface, the Excel CAPE-OPEN Unit Operation is an excellent choice for managing and organizing your chemical engineering simulations. You can even specify which initial guess to use for your solver models, so you can be sure that your simulation runs smoothly and efficiently.
