I recently had the opportunity to test out the changedfiles system, which is a framework designed with multiple uses in mind. It's particularly useful for those who need to monitor file systems for replication or security purposes, as well as those who want to automate file transformations. Regardless of your specific needs, this software provides the flexibility to poll files and directories and take appropriate action based on the filters you set up.

The changedfiles system is made up of two main components. Firstly, there is a kernel module (compatible only with Linux 2.4) that keeps track of when a file on the file system changes. Secondly, there is a daemon that runs in user space and can be configured to perform various actions when a file matching certain patterns is altered.

One standout feature of the daemon is its ability to support real-time in-process FTP mirroring. Additionally, the software also acts as a MySQL database client. These features make the software an ideal choice for those who require robust functionality.
