Dead Pixel Tester

The Dead Pixel Tester (DPT) has recently been updated with an improved version 2.50. For those who are not familiar, TFT screens contain a vast number of pixels, with a 1024x768 monitor having three cells for each pixel representing red, green, and blue. This results in a high number of cells, nearly 2.4 million to be exact (1024x768x3 = 2, 359, 296). The probability of all these pixels being perfect is low, with some likely to be stuck on (bright defect) or dead (dark defect).

The DPT software was originally written to help the author check their own screens by cycling through the three primary colours and all on/off options. You can easily select a colour and then closely inspect your monitor in each primary colour to locate pixels that are not operating correctly. Stuck pixels (always on) are easier to detect due to their size, whereas pixels not operating at all can be more difficult to locate, usually measuring under .5mm.

The DPT software is freely available for non-commercial use. However, for any other usage, it is requested that you contact the authors.
