DeadlyCobra is a familiar snake game inspired by Nibbles. Players navigate a cobra around the limited game space, eating food and avoiding running into barriers, other snakes, or themselves.
DeadlyCobra is a game that resembles the classic Nibbles or snake game. The aim is to eat as many pebbles, known as "Men", as possible without hitting yourself or colliding with the walls. It features both single and multiplayer modes, with energizing music for each level, and cool, 2-D graphics.
Originally designed to compete in No Starch Press's game competition, DeadlyCobra has grown beyond the December 1st, 2001 deadline. Some of the key features of "DeadlyCobra" include 2 single player modes: Adventure & Longest Snake, and 2 head to head multiplayer modes: Standard & Instant Respawn. The program remains simple in design, keeping it small and efficient. There are 4 targets with individual movement patterns, 9 difficulty increments, and 3 different levels.
In addition to the above features, DeadlyCobra has music for each level, sound effects, and a high score save. The game requires gcc, SDL, SDL_image, and SDL_mixer to operate.
The latest release adds various features to the game, including a multiplayer mode, new graphics, and new music created exclusively for DeadlyCobra. The screen layout has been revamped, and the obstacle arrangement changes on every level change. The diversity between difficulty levels has been increased, with difficulty level increasing after every 3 levels completed. A key has been added to save a screen capture, and the score now displays 4 digits.
To address user feedback, the update has removed the ability for men to jump and avoid being eaten, which many thought was a bug. Additionally, sound effects have been added, and invulnerability period with blinking has been added. The update includes the "Longest Snake" mode as well. DeadlyCobra has experienced improvements from two years worth of miscellaneous changes, updates, and minor fixes.
