Deep-Water Linux

Deep-Water Linux is a software distribution that uses the linux kernel and is released under the GNU GPL license v2. The software is a minimalist distribution, specifically designed for users who needed something more than "minimal" but didn't want something that would take too long to load requiring hardware that they couldn't afford. The creator of the software initially designed it for personal use, as a small system that could be used whenever their "hard disk" distro was broken beyond repair from the inside. It was used as a rescue system and installed on their computer as an alternative to other systems they were using.

The developer then thought that others might find it interesting to use, even if it wasn't used as a whole. The software comes with features that make using it easier, such as a panel, icons, file manager and more. Rather than just copying someone else's work and re-distributing it, the creator added their programs and features to ensure that Deep-Water Linux was unique.

The system isn't packed with too many tools, and it might not work well in some circumstances, but the creator can say that many things in the system are their own work. They programmed deep-panel, deep-view, deep-icons, made a new hackedbox (a hack of blackbox) and designed the startup.

There are two types of versions of the software. The first is for older hardware with little memory; it copies the whole system in memory. The second type is for boxes with memory of at least 128MB; it copies only part of itself.

The developer acknowledges that there are better systems out there but insists that Deep-Water Linux can serve some users as an inspiration, a rescue system, or a tool for browsing/editing files or displaying image galleries when their real system is broken beyond repair. If users find any use in the software, the developer is happy enough.
