DJPlay is a Linux-based DJ application designed for live DJ performances with a focus on premium quality.
DJPlay is a top-of-the-line live DJing application exclusively designed for Linux. It has an array of requirements for a smooth functioning experience, such as having Linux on i386, qt 3.x, the latest version being 3.2.1 or higher, the Jack Sound server, and libsamplerate. Additionally, the software supports various, non-mandatory tools like libmad, libaudiofile, libmpeg3, id3lib, cdda_paranoia, LADSPA headers, DJ EQ plugin from swh-plugins, pitch plugin from tap-plugins, parapin (libparapin.a) for control unit, libxml2, gcc 3.x.
It’s important to note that DJPlay does not compile with the RedHat patched version of the gcc compiler, version 2.96. This is not an official gcc release, and using it has been known to produce multiple problems with multimedia applications. It also won’t function properly if Qt has been compiled with gcc 2.96, even if another gcc 2.x compiler is applied to compile DJPlay.
One of the software’s unique features is the external control unit, which can be accessed using the --with-control-unit option. The control unit should have potentiometers attached to axes 0 and 1 of the game port for pitch control and 8 buttons connected to the 8 data pins of the lpt1 port. Two LED’s may be connected to pin 1 and 14 of the printer port if necessary to indicate regular pitch. The four buttons on the gameport may be attached to spinner switches, and the pulses will be used to rotate the seek wheel. But to use this tool, you must have a functional gameport that supports four buttons and analog joystick drivers installed. You’ll also need the user-space version of parapin (libparapin.a). The user must set the parallel port address in djplay.cpp file, and the software must be setuid root for it to work. It drops privileges just after obtaining access to the parallel port hardware.
This latest release of DJPlay features a new trunk build and uses libdjconsole, which is a part of the same program. With all these exciting features, DJPlay is undoubtedly an excellent tool for Linux users who are passionate about DJ-ing!
