I recently had the pleasure of trying out "evilwm", a minimalist window manager for the X Window System. Don't let the term "minimalist" scare you away - this window manager omits a lot of unnecessary features that can make other window managers feel sluggish and cumbersome. Here are some of its key features:

- No window decorations apart from a simple 1 pixel border.
- No icons cluttering up your desktop space.
- Excellent keyboard control, including options for repositioning and maximization.
- Solid window drags (compile time option - may be slow on older machines).
- Snap-to-border support (command line option).
- Virtual desktops (compile time option).
- Small binary size (even with everything turned on).

If you're interested in trying out "evilwm" for yourself, there are several command line options to help you customize your experience to your liking. "-display display" specifies the X display to run on, while "-term termprog" allows you to specify an alternative program to run when spawning a new terminal. You can also adjust the frame colour of the currently active window with "-fg foreground", and the frame colour of inactive windows with "-bg background". The width of window borders can be adjusted with "-bw borderwidth".

Other command line options include snap-to-border support, modifier overrides for keyboard controls, and the ability to match an application by instance name and class. Overall, I found "evilwm" to be a refreshing change from more bloated window managers. It's fast, efficient, and highly customizable. If you're in the market for a new window manager, I highly recommend giving "evilwm" a try.

In the latest release, basic Xrandr support has been added, along with fixes for snap-to-border behaviour and improved stability. If you haven't tried "evilwm" yet, now is the perfect time to give it a go.
