futil

Futil is a collection of Linux utility scripts designed to make system configuration tasks easily accessible through the command line. Some of the main features of futil include the ability to forward VNC or RDC connections through a remote gateway over SSH, re-sync to the network after suspend, display processes associated with a pty, backup key system config files, and more.

To install futil, simply unpack the futil tar archive and run the install.sh script. This will create symlinks in your ~/bin directory that link to the futil scripts. To uninstall the package, run ./uninstall.sh.

It is important to ensure that ~/bin is in your $PATH, otherwise you will not be able to access the futil scripts at the shell command line.

A major release of futil has been focused on the addition of ~/.futilrc support. This allows global values to be registered in the user's ~/.futilrc file, which can safely persist between futil releases instead of being hard coded in the scripts themselves. Additionally, new scripts and files have been added, including dumpschema, dumptables, tables2html, syserr, httpcode, spinchild, spinloop, and the FUTILRC.txt prototype file. Many script enhancements and bug fixes have been made as well.
