Version 0.8.5
License GPL
Platform Linux
Supported Languages English
Homepage gapcmon.sourceforge.net
Developed by James Scott Jr
Gapcmon is a Linux GUI monitor designed for APCUPSD, an interface for connecting to UPS power systems for local or networked systems. This program uses the NIS interface from apcupsd to gather event and status information for display to the end-user. Gapcmon provides a Preferences panel enabling the user to capture the hostname, port, and polling cycle for each UPS configuration; with an "enable" checkbox to indicate if the monitor for this configuration should be active.

The program has some key features, including unlimited support for multiple UPSs, a historical graph of five data points are charted, freeDesktop.org Spec for Notification Area Icons, monitor tooltips, icons that are dynamically added or removed when enabled in preferences and changes to reflect the operational state of the UPS. Icon changes to reflect the operational state of the UPS where the state is (online, onbattery, charging, not communicating, no cable). The program also supports popup tooltip for the data point under the mouse pointer.

The Gapcmon design model assumes the user has an UPS or more attached to one or more TCP/IP hosts with network connectivity to/from the Gapcmon workstation. Gapcmon collects status and event information for each enabled UPS configuration and presents it to the user via a Detailed Information window. This program can be executed on any OS supported machine and use the network socket interface to connect back to apcupsd, and apcupsd must be compiled with nis support.

Requirements for Gapcmon include GTK+ version 2.4.x and ApcUPSD. This release replaces the network routine to use GIOChannels vs gnomeVFS to improve portability by reducing external packages. Overall Gapcmon is a powerful tool for monitoring APCUPSD and displays information about the device impressively. Its comprehensive features and functionality make it an essential program for anyone needing to monitor UPS devices.
