GradeL, the gradebook program for Linux, is an ideal software for teachers. Written in Gambas, it includes some essential features that gradebook programs must have. Although it still has some bugs and incomplete features, it works fine as a functional gradebook program for teachers.
In order to run GradeL, you will need Gambas development version, which is version 1.9.26 currently. This program uses various Gambas components, including gb.eval, gb.qt, gb.qt.ext, gb.qt.kde, and gb.qt.kde.html.
The primary feature of GradeL is the spreadsheet-style main screen that includes vertical column headers with the assignment name, category, and points. Assignments are displayed in categories as per reporting purposes. Teachers can use either numerical scores or alpha-numeric codes to enter grades. These codes can count zero points or excuse students for that particular assignment.
One of the best features of GradeL is its practical reports that provide plenty of information while conserving paper. The program includes various reports, such as complete class report, single marking period progress report, and progress reports for all students.
