IFT

The IFT project is a flight simulator designed explicitly for the purpose of training pilots who are not experienced in instrument flying. The simulator is relatively simple, but it does provide a couple of VOR and NDB stations along with displays that can be utilized to develop basic radio navigation skills.

IFT is predominantly built and tested on GNU/Linux, but it should be operable on all Unices since it only utilizes the X11 library. This makes it fairly accessible to a wide range of users who may prefer different operating systems.

However, there are certain limitations to using IFT. For example, when entering a turn, the time factor should never exceed 20 as the simulator will not stop turning if it does. Additionally, there are only four stations that are defined statically in the source code. While this may be sufficient for some users, others may require more stations, which may be addressed in the future as the simulator grows.

It's essential to note that IFT is essentially a week's hack and may contain bugs that need attention. It's essential to scrutinize the software when using it and report any issues that may arise. Despite its limitations, IFT remains a useful resource for novice pilots looking to develop their skills in instrument flight.
