The first patch that I used was MIDI Global In Note that efficiently observes a specified MIDI Note number on a particular MIDI Channel and outputs the Velocity and a boolean Gate signal. It is an extremely handy feature that helps me to customize MIDI inputs according to my preferences.
The second patch that really caught my attention was MIDI Global Out Note. The patch is efficient because when the gate is rising true, it outputs a MIDI note-on message on a specified MIDI Channel with the velocity. When Gate is falling false, a MIDI note-off message is sent. This feature is great when I want to trigger MIDI Notes in different ways.
The third patch, Image With Composition, was a real game-changer for me. It loads a Quartz Composer Composition (.qtz) file and renders it to an Image. This is a much-needed feature as it has replaced functionality that was removed with the Mac OS X 10.4.7 update.
Then there is File Type patch, which provides the Uniform Type Identifier (UTI) of the specified file. For example, if the path to a QuickTime movie is specified, the File Type outputs "com.apple.quicktime-movie." It is great to know that I can identify the file types with such ease.
MIDI Global Output CC is another innovative feature that allows me to output a MIDI Custom Controller message on a specified MIDI Channel to all MIDI outputs. MIDI Global Input CC is also an excellent feature that observes a specified MIDI custom controller on a specified MIDI channel and outputs the Custom Controller Value and a Value-changed trigger. What I like about this patch is that it is much more user-friendly than the "MIDI Controllers" patch that comes with Quartz Composer.
The String With File is another handy patch that reads a file into a string. String With URL retrieves a URL into a string. Lastly, the document info patch returns some information about the zeroth Cocoa NSDocument.
