While KDE does come with a standard battery monitor, it can be too small to realize the full battery charge at first glance. That's where KThinkBat comes in.
Installation is simple: start by navigating to the directory containing the package's source code and type "./configure". If you're using 'csh' on an older version of System V, you may need to type 'sh ./configure' instead. Running 'configure' takes some time, but it will print messages telling which features it's checking for.
Next, type 'make' to compile the package and 'make install' to install the programs and any relevant data files and documentation. You can remove the program and object files from the source code directory by typing 'make clean'.
In terms of updates, KThinkBat offers beta support for the new sysfs ACPI interface 'power_supply' for Linux Kernels >=2.6.24_rc1. Refactored battery backends and each backend has its own driver makes KThinkBat a versatile laptop battery monitor. Currently, available battery drivers are ACPI, ACPI_SYSFS (alpha), and SMAPI.
With 'make install', kthinkbat_panelapplet.{la,so} is installed into $PREFIX/lib/kdeX. Translation updates to German, Italian, and Slovak have been added, and a regression bug where "mWh" was used instead of the correct "mW" unit is fixed.
However, this release will not show percentage values greater than 100. Overall, KThinkBat is an excellent option for anyone who wants a detailed look into their laptop's battery status.
