LSRefresh

Launch Services is a software responsible for launching applications, URLs, and documents. It has a pre-existing database that records which application can handle which kind of data and files, and provides choices for the Finder's "Open with" menu. Additionally, it can return all kinds of useful information on a file or bundle. However, if an application is not added to the Launch Services database correctly, it may cause negative or weird side effects.

For instance, documents may not be opened with just a double-click, or they may be represented with a blank icon in the Finder. Sometimes, the same issue may occur with newly supported or no longer supported document formats. Furthermore, applications may not be found at all. These kinds of problems may arise if the Finder fails to add or update new applications in the Launch Services database.

Unfortunately, there is no convenient way to manually update the entry of an application in Launch Services. To address this issue, LSRefresh has been created. The tool makes the process of updating the entry of an application in Launch Services easy and straightforward.
