MasterShaper is traffic shaping software for networks.
MasterShaper is a network traffic shaper that offers a web interface for Quality of Service (QoS) functions in newer Linux 2.4- & 2.6-Kernel-Series. The software is designed to enable users with no deeper knowledge of Linux and the difficult syntax of the tc commands from the iproute2 package to learn and use traffic shaping mechanism.
The web interface provided by MasterShaper lets you define bandwidth pipes and filters (IP, MAC, ports, protocols, ipp2p, layer7-filter, etc.). Additionally, it draws graphs about the current bandwidth usage and distribution. With MasterShaper, there is no need for any shell access or privileged users, making it accessible to everyone.
To run MasterShaper, you need Linux Kernel v2.4 or v2.6 with Kernel support for QoS and/or fair queuing, as well as Kernel support for Netfilter (iptables). Furthermore, you require new versions of iptables (ex 1.2.11) and iproute2 (ex 20041019-3), Perl, sudo, Apache or Apache2(httpd.apache.org), PHP with libgd, jpeg and MySQL support, several PHP PEAR modules, MySQL, phplayersmenu, and jpgraph.
The latest version of MasterShaper addresses a few issues, such as problems with pie-graphs not working and the matchall filters not getting the correct priority set. Also, you can now use chains without a fallback service level, which means no pipes assigned.
Overall, MasterShaper is an excellent tool for traffic management with an easy-to-use web interface and does not require advanced Linux knowledge or command line skills. With the added features and bug fixes in the latest version, it is more efficient to use than before.
