MJS is a unique console mp3-player that offers special features not commonly found in similar software.
If you're looking for a console-based mp3-player with some unique features, MJS is worth considering. I first discovered this software back in October 2000 when my students' union only had the option to play tapes or scratch-ridden CDs, making listening to music a frustrating experience. That's when I decided to take action and try out MJS on an old Pentium-60 computer I had laying around.
After adding a low-cost soundcard, NIC, and MDA, I set up Linux and found myself looking for a console-based mp3-player that was easy to use. My search led me to Matt's MP3 Selector (MMS), which checked many boxes but still wasn't quite what I was looking for. Luckily, MMS was GPL licensed, so I decided to try my hand at improving it.
Despite not having any C programming knowledge at the time, I persisted and learned enough to begin seriously customizing the old program. Over time, I added a search function that utilized slocate databases, playlist loading and saving, a more user-friendly interface, simpler directory navigation, and more configuration options.
What's particularly noteworthy about this latest release is the added option to remove a song from the playlist once it has been played, which adds a touch of convenience and simplicity to the whole experience. Overall, MJS is an excellent console-based mp3-player that stands out for its ease of use and unique features.
