Movic is a front-end software that uses ffmpeg to convert video files into mobile device compatible formats.
Movic project is a software tool designed to convert video files into formats that are compatible with mobile devices. As a front-end for ffmpeg, the installed version of ffmpeg should support the input file's format and the output formats. These output formats include MPEG-4 (with xvid(mpeg-4) for video and aac for audio) and 3GPP (with h263 for video and amr_nb for audio).
Movic reads the formats from XML files, including $(datadir)/mobile-video-converter/formats.xml and $HOME/.movic.xml. However, the program currently only supports a limited number of formats. If the formats you want are not included, you can create a file named .movic.xml and add the desired formats using the same syntax found in formats.xml. Once this file is in your home directory, movic will automatically read it and add the included formats to the list.
To use this software tool, you will need to meet certain requirements. These include having GTK+ version 2.2.x, gtkmm-2.4-dev >=2.8.8, libxml++-2.6-dev >=2.14.0, and ffmpeg svn (compiled with mpeg-4, acc, h263, amr_nb support).
The build and uninstall process is straightforward. To build, run $ ./configure followed by $ make. To install, enter # make install. Conversely, to uninstall, enter # make uninstall.

It can now automatically calculate and add padding when converting from 16:9 to 4:3 (or when input aspect > output aspect), detect input file formats, codecs, and more using libavformat and libavcodec. It also checks whether the output formats are supported and whether the output file exists, then asks to overwrite, rename, or act accordingly. The software can automatically add 'lib(f)' prefix to codecs (since some codec names changed in recent ffmpeg revisions) and shows information about input and output formats, codecs, and conversions.
