Nomad II software facilitates Linux-based file transfers and other functions for the Creative Nomad II, IIc, and II MG via USB connection.
Nomad II is a software that supports the Creative Nomad II, IIc, and II MG devices under Linux. It allows you to transfer files and perform other operations. The newly created device file for Nomad II is owned by root by default, without group/other read+write permissions. However, you can make nomadii setuid root; on startup, nomadii detects this mode and changes the device file's owner to the original user. It then drops back to the user ID of the original user to minimize security issues.
You can set up Nomad II in various ways. For example, you can use the devuid, devgid, or devmode mount options for usbdevfs in your /etc/fstab file or /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit on RedHat 7.x. For instance, you can use devmode=0666 to give full access to all USB devices, but this creates a security issue. Instead, in a multi-user machine, it's better to set up a group for USB using this method. You can also install the usb_perms daemon using the hotplug package. This subsystem offers excellent support for USB devices with user-level drivers, such as Nomad II, with its usb.usermap launch method.
Additionally, this software offers new features and updates in this release. For instance, it has been renamed to nomadii and is now available as an RPM.
