OBPkg

OBPkg is an excellent software that serves as a GTK2+ based frontend for the OpenBSD ports/package system. Its functionality is similar to that of Ubuntu's synaptic. The program supports both local ports and packages, including ones found on FTP servers. Additionally, OBPkg supports 'universe' packages, which are unofficial packages created by other users.

Using OBPkg is simple, and you can configure it to your liking by editing the file /etc/obpkg.conf. This file is where you specify all package sources. To use a local directory, such as one from your OpenBSD CD-ROM or NFS, simply use the pkg_local keyword followed by the path. For instance: pkg_local=/mnt/cdrom/packages.

To mount an FTP directory, use official_pkg_ftp for official package mirrors and universe_pkg_ftp for unofficial ones. The syntax is keyword=Host, Path, Username, Password. For example, if you'd like to add the OpenBSD-3.9 packages for i386, use official_pkg_ftp=ftp.openbsd.org, /pub/OpenBSD/3.9/packages/i386, ftp, nobody. Here's another example: universe_pkg_ftp=my.great.server.dyndns.org, /pkg, ftp, ftp.

It's important to note that this release doesn't support login+password for package adding, only downloading packages with user+password. Since pkg_add doesn't support authentication, adding packages doesn't work, but the additional code is still in development. Overall, OBPkg is a useful software that simplifies package management, and it's worth trying out.
