PackManUtil is a command line application that utilizes shell (BASH) scripts. This software was originally designed to simplify the build process for additional packages in an x86_64 multilib Cross Linux from Scratch (CLFS) base system. The main reason for creating PackManUtil was to create a list of installed programs, libraries, and directories that is easily accessible for the CBLFS Wiki, and the function 'wikifi' is the original PackManUtil.

However, PackManUtil has grown substantially since its inception, and it eventually became a build system for Community Beyond Linux from Scratch (CBLFS). The software also now supports building, installing, and removing packages with the help of paco. This allows for the installation of packages from source or through the use of pacoballs.

PackManUtil has been thoroughly tested and is currently used daily on x86_64 multilib, 32-bit PowerPC CLFS, and i586 systems. The software has never been tested on a Linux from Scratch (LFS) system, but there is a high probability that it will work without issue.

Testing has also been done on a Slamd64, version 12.0 system, where 64-bit builds worked with a few exceptions. On the other hand, many of the 32-bit builds also worked, but there were some limitations due to the differences in toolchain used on the Slamd64 system. Similarly, PackManUtil has been minimally tested on an i686 Slackware, version 12.0 install. There were no problems encountered during the testing process.

PackManUtil has also been tested using SlackBuild scripts provided by SlackBuilds.org or Alien BOB. If the '.SlackBuild' extension is removed, these scripts will work with PackManUtil as well. However, the source tarball needs to be retrieved independently. Additionally, binary archives created for Slackware or Slamd64, such as those with .tgz extensions, can also be installed using PackManUtil if they are stored in the right directory.

Moreover, PackManUtil supports the use of Installwatch and Slackware's pkgtools, further expanding its functionality. If you are using PackManUtil, the developers would appreciate an email to know what you think of the software, good or bad. Although PackManUtil is mainly intended for use on a CLFS x86_64, ix86, or 32-bit PPC system, there is still no official support for Slamd64 or Slackware.
