Homepage aamorimsrv.fis.fc.ul.pt
Developed by PaiPix Team
PaiPix Linux is a powerful and versatile compilation of Free Software, based on KNOPPIX live linux. Suitable for use in any environment, it has a special emphasis on science and technologies. Whether you require tools for scientific research or free applications for personal use, PaiPix Linux has got your back.

PaiPix Linux not only forms an open door to the public, but it also supports clusters of distributed computing, farms simulation farms, and user laboratories. Its powerful features make it suitable for use in medium to large-sized organizations, where the sharing of compressed DVD images and included afs file system support is incredibly useful.

The system combines all the versatility of KNOPPIX with optimized configuration for several languages, including Portuguese. This makes it an ideal choice for not only document editing tasks but also advanced technological and scientific systems. With the paipix-remaster script, you can change the default language of your iso image or add your personal files to the PAIPIX DVD.

PaiPix Linux is a free software project, made possible by the dedicated work of expert developers. It is distributed without any guarantee, but rest assured that its components have been extensively tested by millions of users worldwide.

Based on Knoppix 3.8 and including kernel 2.6.11, PAIPIX uses the Unionfs file system that mounts the DVD image in read-write mode. With this feature, users can run their 3D-enabled drivers for ATI or NVIDIA cards. By booting with 'knoppix install=ati' or 'knoppix install=nvidia', users can run the FlightGear simulator (fgfs) and experience the new fantastic 3D support in Linux.

What's New in This Release: PAIPIX 7.10 has been upgraded with backports to combine the stability of Debian Etch development, X window, and KDE with an upgraded kernel (2.6.22), OpenOffice.org 2.2, and many more updated applications. New scientific applications have also been included. The new PAIPIX 7 GNU/Linux has kept its focus on scientific software but dropped the emphasis on a pure live DVD. Thanks to the use of Debian official packages 'debian-live' and 'debian-cd', the development of PAIPIX is now more sustainable in the medium range.

In conclusion, PaiPix Linux is a robust, versatile, and open-source software project that continually evolves to meet the changing needs of its users. Its combination of powerful features, free software, and support for multiple languages make it ideal for use in a wide range of personal and organizational settings.
