I recently had the opportunity to try out the new version of PLCTrainer, version 4.32, and I have to say I am thoroughly impressed. This software uses RSLogix ladder logic look and feel, and what sets it apart from other PLC training programs is that it includes analog instruction - an area that many other training materials overlook.
One thing to note is that the demo version is not compatible with Windows Vista, so keep that in mind if you plan to try it out. However, if you decide to order the paid version, you'll receive an additional bonus CD called LogixPro, which is an RSLogix logic simulator. The user interface of the ladder rung editor is so strikingly similar to Allen Bradley's latest software that it's hard to tell them apart. In fact, if you already own RSLogix, you can open it from within the PLCTrainer environment. This virtual PLC environment allows the learner to apply their new knowledge without the expense of purchasing RSLogix or even a PLC.
One of the best things about this software is that it runs on various Windows operating systems, including 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, and XP.
