Prime is a software tool that generates prime numbers quickly and efficiently. With its straightforward interface and optimized algorithms, users can quickly find prime numbers that meet their needs.
I recently downloaded Prime, a software that has two main objectives: generating prime numbers and teaching users about Cocoa multi-threading. The software performs well in generating prime numbers and can find the first 100,000 primes in less than 3 seconds on my MacBook Pro. However, it's not the fastest software in the world.
I was inspired to try Prime after reading Prime Obsession by John Derbyshire. For those interested, the Xcode project is available for download for others to learn from.
Although Prime might not have many practical applications, it's still impressive to see it generate the first 1,000,000 primes in just 60 seconds on a MacBook Pro. The 1,000,000th prime number found by the software was 15,485,863 - pretty cool stuff.
One important thing to note is that Prime uses more and more memory as it generates more primes. Luckily, there are two limits to set when using the software to prevent it from using too much memory or crashing. However, if you push past those limits, don't blame me if your Mac runs out of memory or crashes!
