Quick Look

Quick Look is an incredibly useful package for system administrators looking to keep track of system statistics and maintain a better understanding of their system's current state. It provides easy-to-read and visually appealing graphics and (X)HTML pages that offer comprehensive insights into system performance.

With Quick Look's fantastic features, system administrators can quickly assess system status without resorting to more complex and heavier alternatives. The package offers capabilities such as CPU and memory usage, load average, process spawning rates, I/O operations, network traffic rates, and tracking of network connections.

To get started with Quick Look, you will need Python 2.3 or newer, Cheetah 0.9.16 or newer, Linux 2.4.27 or newer, rrdtool 1.0.49 or newer, and python-rrd 0.2.1 or newer. Once you meet these requirements, installing Quick Look is easy. Just run "make DESTDIR=/opt/quicklook install" and "cp extras/stats.cron /etc/cron.d/stats", and you're good to go.

By default, Quick Look stores data files in /var/opt/quicklook and generates webpages into /var/www/quicklook. However, users can easily modify output directories or installation directories by editing the stats.cron file before copying it.

Quick Look collects data and generates webpages every five minutes, requiring no further action on your part. However, you can always run stats.py without parameters to check out the available options.

This release of Quick Look includes the fix for the occasional spike issues in graphs after a reboot. Existing data files will need to be converted to access this new feature. Quick Look is an excellent option for those looking for a quick way to monitor their system's performance, without all the added complexity.
