Settevion software provides the capability to modify and manage channels on Skymaster DXL 9400 Satellite Receiver.
Version 1.4.1
License GPL
Platform Linux
Supported Languages English
Homepage www.hczim.de
Developed by Heike C. Zimmerer
Settevion is an excellent software program that you can use to edit the channels on your Skymaster DXL 9400 Satellite Receiver, which was previously known as Tevion FTA 203 and sold by Aldi. However, keep in mind that the current version of the software only allows for editing television channels, not radio channels. Additionally, this program makes use of undocumented behaviour, which means you use it at your own risk. There is no guarantee of safety or protection against possible damage to your equipment.

If you are interested in using Settevion for personal, non-commercial purposes, then you will be happy to know that the program is free of charge. However, if you plan to use it for commercial purposes or plan on copying the software, even at no cost, you must have written permission.

One thing to note is that while the instructions are only provided in German, the program's dialog language is English, so you should not have any issues using it if you don't speak German.

When you are ready to download Settevion, you can choose between the Linux version (settevion-x.x.x.tar.gz) or the Windows version (settevion-win-x.x.x.zip), both of which are available in the "Download" section below.

For Linux, you'll need to have Python installed (at least version 2.2) and Tkinter, which may be in a separate package. These tools should be part of your distribution. Once you have downloaded the .tar.gz file, simply unpack it and use the "make install" command.

On the other hand, the Windows version comes with the Python interpreter already integrated into the settevion.exe file. All you need to do is unpack the .zip file.

After you've installed the software, it's time to connect your receiver to your computer using a null modem cable and launch Settevion. Choose "Edit->Preferences" to select your serial device, then select "Receiver->Read data from receiver" to read data from your receiver. These steps should be enough to get you up and running with Settevion.

Finally, the 1.4.1 release of Settevion comes with some new features, including the ability to read in SER data entry by entry since firmware version 2.12 doesn't dump the SER database any longer. SatIO.read() has also been updated to ignore asynchronous error messages ("trashlog") if they are on a line of their own, and a warning message has been added if Python is called with -O and one of the debugging (-v) command line options is set.
