SGMLtools-Lite

SGMLtools-Lite was a software project that replaced the outdated SGMLtools system. It was designed to be user-friendly and featured numerous processing backends, as well as custom stylesheets. However, the software is no longer being updated, as XML-based tools have become more prevalent in the world of documentation.

For those still interested in using SGML, it is recommended to consider the newer XML versions of DocBook and the DocBook Tools from Red Hat.

The latest release of SGMLtools-Lite includes several updates designed to integrate it better with the Linux Standard Base. This includes updates to buildcat and gensgmlenv to better handle sgmlwhich variants, as well as updates to sgmltools to better interpret these variants. The sgmltools.1 manpage has also been moved to sgmltools-lite.1 manpage, to avoid confusion with an older version of the software.

Other updates to this release include improvements to the shellProtect function in utils.py, which previously had trouble handling paths that ended in an asterisk. The default behavior of the software's backends has also been clarified.

Additionally, a spec file has been added for RedHat 7.1, which is now the default when using 'rpm -ta.' This should make it easier for users to install SGMLtools-Lite on this particular version of RedHat.

Finally, a RedHat 7.1 catalog has been added for those who may need it. Overall, while SGMLtools-Lite may be outdated, it still offers some useful features for documentation producers who prefer SGML over XML.
