You can choose from around 20 supported distributions, which do not necessarily have to match the host you are running. Keep in mind that most distributions typically consist of 2-3 CDs and can amount to 1.3-1.8GB when downloaded as ISO images.
After obtaining the intended distribution, you'll need to extract the RPMs from the CDs or ISO images. To extract RPMs from CDs, place the first CD in your CD drive and drag the files to an allocated directory, typically named /space/rpms. If you have no CD icon or are in console mode, reference your system documentation for instructions on mounting the CD.
For ISOs, you'll need root access and perform a loopback mount. Choose a location to mount the image, such as /mnt/loop, and follow the same steps as extracting RPMs from CDs.
Once all RPMs are extracted, change the owner of the RPMs to you (not root) by using the command # chown yourlogin /space/rpms/*. UML Builder provides a graphical user interface through umlbuilder_gui and command line tool through umlbuilder (man page) to complete the installation process.
