I recently tried out the software called "What's This File Type?" and I have to say, it's amazing! This software is designed to help you identify what program a file was created by and what the file actually is. The best part? It's incredibly simple to use! All you have to do is right-click on the file you're trying to identify and select "Bloody Hell! What's this File Type?" (don't worry, there are other less aggressive options available too).

If you're dealing with a file extension that you're completely unfamiliar with and have no idea which application it's for, this is the perfect search tool for you. Simply enter the file extension you're searching for, with or without a leading period, and the software will search its extensive database to find a match. If there are multiple applications that match the extension, it will show you a list so you can choose the one you need.

In addition, the software provides some general hints on what to do if you're not finding the match you need. For example, if the file extension includes a number and no search results come up, try again with the number "1" or "01". This is because these types of files are often part of a series and only the first few entries are in the database. Similarly, if the extension is all numbers and no results come up, try again with ".000". And if the extension ends with an underscore and still no results come up, it's likely that the file is part of an installation set and is compressed.
