OBJ Import for SolidWorks is a plug-in enabling SolidWorks to import graphical data from ASCII Alias|Wavefront OBJ files.
The OBJ file is composed of solids, which are built with 3 or 4 sided faces. This plug-in allows SolidWorks to read the surfaces, which are then woven together into a robust solid in a new SolidWorks part document. If the knit operation is successful, the newly formed solid will appear as the base feature in the document, and it will be given the name "Imported1." However, if the surfaces represent multiple closed volumes, they are turned into one part for each closed volume. In case the stitching process is unsuccessful, the surfaces are then combined into one or more surface features and named accordingly - Surface-Imported1, 2, and so on.
OBJ Import for SolidWorks is incredibly facile to use, and it makes the entire process of importing OBJ files a breeze. The plug-in presents itself as a new file type in the SolidWorks File Open dialog box. All you need to do is to select the "Wavefront Files (*.obj)" from the "Files of type," select the OBJ file you want to import, and a new part document will be generated, containing the imported OBJ file. Overall, this plug-in is a perfectly designed tool for SolidWorks users who want seamless and effortless OBJ file import functionality at their fingertips.
