ODAC enables Oracle access in Borland Delphi and C++ Builder applications without the need for BDE.
One of the most significant benefits of ODAC is that it offers a Net option, which allows you to work directly through TCP/IP without requiring Oracle's software on the client side. This means that you can use ODAC without the need for additional expenses or administration.
Using ODAC has several advantages, including its support of Oracle 8 feather data types such as BLOB, CLOB, and BFile. It also simplifies data updating and offers two ways of updating data. The first is more flexible with TOraQuery, and the second is more comfortable with TSmartQuery. It speeds up data fetching from the database and provides automatic locking and refreshing of records.
ODAC also allows you to execute a long-time stored procedure in a separate thread and has advanced design-time editors. Its interface (methods, properties) of ODAC components is similar to standard data access components (TDatabase, TQuery, etc.) and supports all data-aware components.
Additionally, ODAC Net is a significant advantage as it lets you work with Oracle directly through TCP/IP protocol and doesn't require the installation of Oracle client software. To connect to the Oracle server with ODAC Net, you only need to know the address of the computer where the Oracle server is, the listening port number, and the database instance name. This makes using ODAC a more efficient and cost-effective solution for connecting to the Oracle database.
