This Open Source software manages time limits and PC reservations by retrieving remaining time from server based on user login. It includes a countdown clock to show remaining time and logs users out automatically once their time limit is reached.
Pre-book comprises three components: Windows client, Linux server, and Linux client (DiscoverStation). The Windows client logs out users automatically once their time is up and offers a countdown clock showing the remaining time. Users have the option of logging off using the standard Windows log-off or the log-off menu from the Pre-Book system tray icon.
Clients communicate with the server via XML-RPC, and the Linux-based Pre-book Server tracks usage for clients across multiple locations. It also enables users to reserve PCs in advance from a web page, making the booking process much more convenient.
The server enforces the usage policies set by the administrator, such as maximum usage per day and many other settings. With Pre-Book, businesses and institutions can effectively manage and monitor computer usage while providing an excellent customer experience.
