The Firefox extension offers modification and disabling of the keys for the find bar opening.
With most programs, hot keys are generally restricted to search only in links and for normal searches. However, this can sometimes be inconvenient, particularly when dealing with bug #258285. Fortunately, Search Hot Keys works around this limitation by defaulting to the key "|" for link searches and "^" for normal searches.
Of course, the great thing about Search Hot Keys is that you don't have to use the default settings if you don't want to. If you prefer a different key for a particular action, you can easily change it using the following preferences: user_pref("searchkeys.link.key", 03x); user_pref("searchkeys.find.key", 03x). Simply replace "03x" with the ascii code for the key you want to use.
Additionally, if you decide that you don't want to use the hot keys at all, you can disable the feature altogether by using the following command: user_pref("searchkeys.disable.all", true). Whether you want to customize your search capabilities or simply streamline your user experience, the Search Hot Keys extension is a great choice.
