AstroCam is a software system for controlling Stepmotors which is C-based and includes a PHP-Webinterface, making stepper motor control easy and user-friendly.
The AstroCam software is a powerful system designed to control step motors using C programming language. What's more, it also incorporates a user-friendly PHP web interface to simplify the use of the system. The first version of AstroCam was launched back in December 2001 and was written using C and Tcl/Tk. Unfortunately, it soon became clear that this combination of programming languages was problematic.
In response, the developers decided to replace the existing Tcl/Tk interface with a CGI web interface and a Gtk GUI. However, as time progressed and technology evolved, they determined that it was time to overhaul the entire system. All unnecessary parts were scrapped, and AstroCam was completely rewritten from scratch with improved functionality.
The result of this revision is a more efficient system with a superior PHP web interface that is both faster and more user-friendly. Additionally, the communication system between various components was changed, and now relies on message queues. This modification has brought additional stability and reliability to AstroCam. Overall, the latest version is a greatly improved and updated version of the original system.
