This software enables encryption (using 40-bit or 128-bit standard supported by Acrobat Reader 5.0 or above) of pre-existing PDF documents.

For instance, you can encrypt a PDF without allowing printing, and the print button will be disabled in the Acrobat Reader application. Similarly, you can encrypt a PDF to allow only users who have the correct password to read the file. It is important to note that the source PDF must be an unencrypted PDF. The Acrobat Reader application will show a key in the bottom status bar if the PDF is encrypted.
There are two types of passwords that you can apply to a PDF: owner password and user password. Using the owner password to open a PDF will grant you full access to the PDF, even if a user password has been assigned. This means that you will still be able to print the PDF, even if printing was disabled. No password will be prompted when opening the PDF if you secure it with only an owner password. Using the user password to open the PDF will restrict your access based on how the PDF has been encrypted.
EncryptPDF Command line is another useful feature of this software. It is easy to use and does not require Adobe Acrobat software. It supports password protection for opening documents, prevents printing and copying of text or graphics, and prevents changes to the document. It also supports PDF files with 40 or 128-bit encryption, user and owner passwords, and adding printing, copying, and changing permissions to an encrypted PDF file. Additionally, it supports Acrobat 7.0 PDF format.
