Homepage www.linuxkungfu.org
Developed by Rocco Stanzione
IPKungFu is an iptables-based Linux firewall designed with security, ease of use, and performance as its primary aims. It utilizes advanced features of iptables, tcpwrappers, and the Linux kernel to provide an extensive range of configurations such as Internet connection sharing, multiple virtual hosts, IP forwarding, IP masquerading, configurable logging, and string matching, among others.

The project caters to both novice and experienced users through its simple and easy-to-use installer and various configuration files. It is an ideal tool for anyone looking to simplify the creation of an iptables-based firewall or configure a Linux machine to share its Internet connection.

IPKungFu takes configuration directives from the files in /etc/ipkungfu and uses them, along with some information gathered from the system, to build a firewall using iptables and sysctl. It is essentially an interface to iptables, which, in turn, is an interface to the Linux kernel's netfilter code.

Installing IPKungFu is a breeze. All you need to do is download and unpack the source, run the installation script, and edit the configuration files in /etc/ipkungfu to your taste. Afterward, execute ipkungfu (/usr/local/sbin/ipkungfu) and enjoy the benefits of an advanced firewall.

IPKungFu offers a range of options to users, including: testing the configuration, disabling the firewall, displaying all available options, showing the version, listing iptables rule sets, checking if IPKungFu is loaded, flushing iptables rules, running in panic mode, running with no standard output, and displaying main configuration options.

Although IPKungFu is a powerful tool, it has some limitations. Currently, it does not support IPv6. However, it does require connection tracking, IP tables support, connection state match support, REJECT target support, full NAT, MASQUERADE target support, packet mangling, TOS target support, LOG (and/or ULOG) target support, multiple port match support, FTP protocol support, IRC protocol support, limit match support, REDIRECT target support, and NAT of local connections.

In conclusion, IPKungFu is an excellent iptables-based Linux firewall that offers robust security, ease of use, and superior performance. If you're looking to configure your Linux machine to share its Internet connection or create an advanced firewall, then IPKungFu is the tool for you.
