Python has a library specifically designed for PS3 game development under Linux. It allows for rendering to the PS3 frame buffer either on a per pixel basis or using blittable objects, including solid, masked, or alpha blended objects. Moreover, this library supports PS3 controllers and also integrates with PIL for efficient image manipulation and text rendering.

The developer behind the library chose Python as the most logical scripting language for game development due to its ease of use and widespread support. The library has easy-to-extend features and comes pre-installed in most Linux distributions.

The current build of the library consists of several features and capabilities, such as support for the PS3 frame buffer, blittable objects, PS3 controllers, and integration with PIL. Additionally, a proof-of-concept breakout game has been developed to give users a demonstration of the library's capabilities.

Despite initial challenges in developing the library, the developer managed to create a demo game that showcased the features of the library effectively. The breakout game may not be the most compelling game, but it does have alpha transparency on all the blocks.

The code is written in a simple and easy-to-understand manner, as illustrated by an example taken directly from the test.py file. The user can use the library's blittable object feature with code like this:

image = Blittable(Image.open("miglu.jpg"))
for count in xrange(screen.height-image.height):
screen.clear()
screen.blit(image, (count,count) )
screen.flip()
screen.wait()

The latest version of the library includes a patched bootable image that works with PS3 firmware 2.10 which is functionally equivalent to the 0.2.7 release. Overall, the Python library for PS3 game development is an excellent tool for developers looking to develop games for the PS3 under Linux.
