Spike Asset Manager

Spike Asset Manager (SAM) is a remarkable open-source framework, available on multiple platforms, that's designed for inspecting a system and reporting its components. The software includes a driver file to help detect commonly used components in the LAMPJ stack (e.g., Apache, MySQL, PHP, Tomcat, etc.). SAM can identify the installed versions of multiple components, as well as query the rpm database and identify whether components are already active.

The software's driver file can be customized to accommodate other components. SAM also provides a mechanism for extending its functionality using extension plugins in a variety of languages (e.g., shell, Perl, Python, Java, etc.). Additionally, users can change the application's code, and define new directives in SAM's driver file.

SAM component search list currently includes: apache2, axis, commons-logging, hibernate, java, jetspeed, jboss, log4j, mysql, openldap, openssl, perl, php, python, spring, struts, and tomcat. In the newest release, an addition to the software includes a Web server. Additionally, functionality that was previously only command-line driven has been enhanced through an AJAX enabled Web client. This feature allows users a common interface regardless of their operating systems while also offering remote or local administration capabilities. MochiKit and JSON integration enables the usage of AJAX. The software's official website has also been moved to the SpikeSource developer Web site.
