Taggtool

Taggtool is a Windows-based software that aims to bring the tagging paradigm to the desktop. Tags are non-hierarchical keywords or terms assigned to a piece of information, which helps describe an item and enables easy browsing or searching. The tagging system was popularized by Web 2.0 websites, and now Taggtool brings this feature to your computer.

Traditionally, finding a file on your computer involves remembering where exactly the file lives, or knowing at least some part or all of its name. With Taggtool, all you need to remember is roughly what the file is about, and you can tag it accordingly. For instance, an insurance quote file can be tagged as "insurance, travel, quote." You can then view the file by entering one or more of the tags associated with it into the Taggtool search widget.

The latest release of Taggtool, version 2.1.7, introduces several new features. Firstly, there is vastly improved Windows integration, which means you can add tags to your files directly from the Windows File Explorer. Simply right-click on any file or directory, select "Add Tags" from the popup menu, and tag your file.

Secondly, Taggtool offers desktop widgets that allow you to find files without opening the full application. Enter your search terms into the small search widget and the search results will be displayed in a small floating widget.

Thirdly, there are Quick Search buttons that you can use to find all pdfs, office documents, images, or audio files with a single click. Fourthly, Taggtool enables you to perform boolean OR searches. Use the "pipe" symbol ( | ) to create boolean OR searches. For example, to find all spreadsheets OR word documents, enter ".xls |.doc."

Finally, Taggtool integrates with Delicious.com social bookmarking, meaning it can import your Delicious tags, tag bundles, and posts for instant searching alongside your tagged files. Overall, Taggtool is a handy tool for those who want to organize their files using the tagging system.
