Abacus Project is a math solving software with an environmental arcade twist. The software includes a bonus flash card feature for improving math skills.
The game consists of three modules: Puzzle Play, Arcade Play, and Flash Cards. In the Puzzle Play module, children solve a series of challenging math puzzles that build their skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The Arcade Play module is an environmental arcade game that is interspersed with the math puzzles from Puzzle Play. Children take on the role of a child named Kim who has fallen into a mysterious underground laboratory. With the help of Abacus, Kim must find a way out of the lab while navigating past a series of locked security doors, hostile blobs, flying critters, and blasts of steam.
The Flash Cards module focuses on helping children increase their speed and accuracy in basic math problems. It aims to develop automatic recall and fluency of basic math facts, including addition and subtraction facts to 19, multiplication facts to 12 x 12, and division facts to 144/12.
To run The Abacus Project, your computer must meet the following requirements: a Power Mac with a 133 MHz processor or better, 64 MB of free RAM, a 640 x 480 resolution display with thousands of colors or better, a CD-ROM drive (required for program installation only), and 155 MB of available hard-disk space. In summary, The Abacus Project is an excellent tool for parents and educators looking to help children develop their math skills in a fun, engaging way.
