Repair Privileges restores Mac OS X system files and Apple software privileges to their default configuration.
Use Repair Privileges to address the following issues:
- Receiving an "An error of type -192" alert message in Disk Copy when disk images fail to become available.
- Receiving an "An error of type -108" alert message in Print Center when spooling print jobs.
- Receiving a "You are running Classic without superuser (root) Privileges" alert message when attempting to start up Classic and the System Folder is blessed.
- When an Admin user is unable to drag files to a folder where they should have write access, such as the Applications folder.
- Files becoming unexpectedly locked and unable to be unlocked in the Finder.
In the latest version, there have been changes to the software. The program no longer checks files and directories in /private/var/run/, which will eliminate repeating messages in the Log that permissions were corrected for these files. Additionally, there has been an issue fixed where running Repair Privileges 1.0 with iTunes 3.0 installed would prevent iTunes 3.0 and the iTunes Helper from launching. If Repair Privileges 1.0 was run with iTunes 3.0 installed, Repair Privileges 1.1 should be used to fix iTunes and iTunes Helper. The About Repair Privileges dialog has also been enabled.
Please note that this software is only compatible with Mac OS X 10.1.5. Overall, Repair Privileges is a helpful utility for restoring privilege settings to their default configuration and resolving common error messages.
